Every true teacher of martial or warrior arts has been ‘rooted’ in their tradition. This is also true for the tradition of Bujinkan Dojo. In Bujinkan Dojo, every true teacher has been awarded with diplomas (Menkyo) and certificates (Shomeisho) given by his/her own teacher. These documents prove both this individual’s tradition of belonging to the Bujinkan school and his/her personal achievements. In Bujinkan, Soke and highly regarded teachers of traditional warrior arts (Shihan and Shidoshi) award their students with rankings and diplomas for their knowledge and skills. These diplomas and rankings are great honor, but they also carry great obligations and responsibilities – both for the teachers of Bujinkan Ninpo Budo Taijutsu / Ninjutsu and, especially, for the students that have been awarded.

In Bujinkan Ninpo Budo Taijutsu / Ninjutsu all diplomas are obtained from the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo. In Bujinkan, each properly registered and licensed teacher must have the following documents:

  • A Diploma for his/her Dan ranking. This Diploma has been awarded to him/her by his/her teacher, for knowledge, experience and skills. This Diploma is also the written proof of particular person’s ranking within the Bujinkan organization.
  • A Shidoshi Ho (junior instructor) or Shidoshi (senior instructor) Certificate or License. This Certificate proves that this person is really registered as a teacher by Bujinkan Hombu Dojo Japan. Without this Certificate, a person is not authorized to teach the students nor to award any title/ranking.
  • A Bujinkan Instructor Membership Card, which has to be updated every year. It is a proof that this teacher / student is still a member of Bujinkan Dojo.

Without any of these three documents which are issued by the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo, a person is not allowed to teach, nor to grant titles, and is not even a member of Bujinkan Dojo. All these facts can always be checked at Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Japan.
